Membership in God’s earthly kingdom, designed to prepare us for His more

Brigham Young on wealth

Having a divine center makes all things spiritual. With such a perception, we bring spiritual values and applications to any honorable occupation or situation. Put GOD before GDP

It is not difficult, of course, to see how all things in a missionary’s life are spiritual, including Preparation Day, recreation activity, eating, and sleeping, because it is all geared toward one end, that of building the kingdom. It is more difficult, although the principle still holds, to see how all things are spiritual to a businessman, a student, a housewife, an artist, an athlete.
“If you want to be rich, keep your dish right side up and wait for the porage from heaven to fall.” “Mormons will become the most wealthy people on the planet.” – Brigham Young
“Contented poverty is an honorable estate.” Indeed, if it be contented, it is not poverty at all. It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor. What does it matter how much a man has laid up in his safe, or in his warehouse, how large are his flocks and how fat his dividends, if he covets his neighbour’s property, and reckons, not his past gains, but his hopes of gains to come? Do you ask what is the proper limit to wealth? It is, first, to have what is necessary, and, second, to have what is enough. Letters from a a Stoic, letter II
Brigham Young once said: “We can serve God as much in one place as in another, whether we are working in a mercantile institution, or on our crops in the field, or preaching the gospel. We serve God as much in one place as in the other.” Consider how this is so. This world is temporal; it is physical. To survive, we must make a living in it. The temporal welfare of the Saints is a very important part of the work of the kingdom. There are perhaps as many teachings and parables surrounding money and the making of a living as any other single subject. Often the greatest of the spiritual tests take place in this area of life, simply because it is so real, so practical, so immediate. How we conduct ourselves in this challenging area clearly shows what is truly preeminent in our lives.
